Trade Mark Application Fees are Increasing - All You Need To Know

When I get asked by business owners if they might have left it too late to get their trade marks in place, my heart sinks because if someone is asking that question, it's usually already too late. 

When to get a trade mark is something that a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with because you don't want to apply for a trade mark too soon into your business journey because if you change the business name then you'll have wasted money and you'll have to start the application process again.

Right now however, could be a great time to apply because trade mark application fees are increasing. 

What's Changing?

 From 1st April 2026, it's about to get more expensive to legally protect your business. Trade mark application fees are going up from £170 to £205 for fast track applications and from £200 to £250 for Right Start application.

*Costs are higher for paper applications in most cases. Remember that your trade marks need to be renewed every 10 years.

In the UK having the first registered rights is everything!
